Sordid Lives

A friend told me the other day that she believed that we have lived past lives.

When I mentioned this to Michael, and he asked "So what past lives did she lead?"

When I told him, he remarked that so often people's past lives seemed to be more interesting than their present lives.

I've noticed this, too, or at least something similar.

I've never heard a story about a past life in which the teller was a drunken wife-beater or a worthless ne'er-do-well whose long overdue death was greeted with a sigh of relief by their relatives.
